It's easy to dismiss occasional bouts of constipation as a result of poor diet choices or insufficient hydration. However, hypothyroidism plays a significant role in causing persistent constipation and is one of the many symptoms of thyroid issues. Hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid gland), can disrupt the delicate balance of bodily functions, including digestion.

When I was severely hypothyroid, I was so constipated that even laxatives didn't really work. I was living a daily hell of hoping something would change. Colonics, extra fiber - you name it, I tried it. Unfortunately the constipation issues persisted until I finally treated my hypothyroidism, and when you do that correctly - it eliminates ALL of the symptoms of hypothyroidism. I have not had a digestive issue since.

The thyroid gland, located in the neck, is responsible for producing thyroid hormones that regulate various bodily functions and when it fails to produce an adequate amounts of thyroid hormones, it results in negatively affecting the body's metabolism, leading to a wide range of symptoms, including fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, constipation, and more.

If you experience persistent constipation alongside other symptoms such as fatigue, unexplained weight gain, depression, hair loss, dry and cracked skin...it's important to get your thyroid comprehensively checked

The great news is - all thyroid issues are solvable and there are several approaches.
